Jane Dong knows how to utilize, globalize and capitalize on good business situations.
In 1985, Jane Dong came to the United States from China as an intra-company transferee from China National Metals & Minerals Import & Export Corporation. Starting as a department manager, she worked her way up to Vice President of Minmetals, Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of her parent company.
While attending the Fordham University Graduae School of Business, Jane came up with a plan to use her global business contacts and expertise, as well as help pay her tuition. She founded XM International, Inc. (XMI) which imported metal products from China and exported forest products to the Far East. Building her business, Jane wanted to ensure quality products at competitive prices. In 1996, she set up branches in China. In 1998, XMI acquired its first manufacturing facility. Jane also established an excusive working relationship with a handful of the best mills in sourcing from Europe and opened a full line distribution center in Greenville, South Carolina. XMI was then ranked as one of the top three importers of metal fencing products nationwide, number one in China. Today, XMI is the second largest fastener importer in the US, number one in China.
Operating a company in countries on opposite sides of the world has its challenges. Asian and American cultures vary tremendously in product satisfaction. In America, "the customer is always right." In Asia, a "caveat emptor" philosophy leads to relatively low customer satisfaction. As a result, Jane is constantly educating her vendors about how to service American customers.
Jane has built XMI on the values of growth, integrity and teamwork. Her multicultural staff from Asia, Europe and the US is trained to be cross-cultural and easily able to adapt to competitive market situations. XMI supports professional training and rewards its employees for efficiency and innovative ideas.
Jane's future plans for XMI include becoming a major-league, nationwide, building materials distribution chain and repositioning to both best utilize e-commerce advantages and maximize shareholders' value. Launching an IPO or merging with a company could serve as a good strategic fit. With her past sucess, business savvy and international know-how, Jane is well prepared to take on new global challenges.
